Viu Manent Wine Masterclass

On Wednesday 15th we welcomed Chilean producer Viu Manent for our first ever wine masterclass at Fazenda Liverpool.

Our guest speaker for the evening was Alex Bussey, who took us through a brief history of wine, of South American and more specifically Chilean wine production and Viu Manent’s philosophy and winemaking.

In this Masterclass, our guests were introduced to Viu Manent’s Secret range, a simple but fun range from the winery. It is characterised by having 15% of a secret grape/variety  in each of the wines – hence its name.

– Secret Sauvignon Blanc 2013, with stone and passion fruits. Quite mineral and citrusy.

– Secret Viognier 2012, with notes of ripe and exotic stone fruits. Also pear and white flower notes. This is one of our wines of the month of January at Fazenda.

– Secret Pinot Noir 2011, raspberry and sour cherry, also violets and pink flower notes. This Pinot Noir goes really well with lamb.

– Secret Malbec 2012, with red berry fruits. Rich and meaty.

– Secret Syrah 2010, quite floral and mineral. Spicy notes in the palate.

– Secret Carmenere 2011, with plum and dark cherry notes. Also tobacco and dark chocolate. It’s spicy with subtle tannins. This is also one of our wines of the month of January.

Our guests were able to enjoy their Fazenda meal accompanied by all these fantastic wines. Among their favourites were the Viognier and the Malbec, but the Syrah and Carmenere got some amazing feedback as well.

It was a pleasure to share the evening with all of our guests and learn more about these Chilean wines thanks to Alex.
