Caipirinha

Capirinha is synonym of Brazil, there’s no doubt about that.

Made with cachaça (ka-SHAAH-suh) it’s Brazi’s national cocktail. Cachaça is the nation’s spirit, a cousin of rum and is made from 100% fresh cane juice (unlike rum, which is made from molasses).

Would you like to make a perfect caipirinha? Here’s our head bartender’s method:

– Place 4 lime wedges in a glass. Add 2 tablespoons of  white sugar.

– Mash lime and sugar with a muddler for about 15 seconds. Muddling well is key as it releases all of the lime’s flavour and mixes the sugar with the fruit.

– Fill the  glass with ice (crushed ice is ideal as it will slightly melt in the mixing process and help to blend all flavours).

– Add 50ml of cachaça

– Place a shaker securely over  glass and shake  for 5 to 10 seconds.

– Pour all the contents of the shaker into a  glass. Add ice, garnish with a fresh lime and pronto!
